Director of Climate Change Prof. Halil Hasar attended the “High-level Leadership Consultation: Delivering the New Era of NDC Implementation with UN System Support.”
At the meeting held at the special invitation of the United Nations and hosted by the United Nations Development Programme and the COP30 Presidency, new-phase implementation strategies for Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) were discussed.
While in Belém, Brazil, for COP30, Director of Climate Change Hasar indicated that Türkiye’s Second Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0) has been formally submitted to the Secretariat.
Emphasizing that Türkiye continues to pursue its efforts to combat climate change with strong ownership at the highest level, Director Hasar said: “During the preparation of its second Nationally Determined Contribution, Türkiye made its targets more ambitious and achieved significant progress through strong institutional coordination, science-based national modeling capacity, and broad stakeholder participation.
For the effective implementation of NDCs, the efficient use of technology, the expansion of green finance mechanisms, and the strengthening of international cooperation are essential.”
The meeting was attended by UNFCCC Executive Secretary Simon Stiell, COP30 President Ana Toni, and heads of delegations from numerous countries, who discussed national plans and priorities for the next phase of NDC implementation.
Other country representatives also underlined that finance, technology transfer, and capacity-building play a decisive role in the successful implementation of NDCs, calling for enhanced global solidarity and cooperation.
Türkiye’s active participation was noted as a strong reflection of its commitment to implementing its climate targets and its firm stance at the international level.
