The fourth round of the Climate Change Adaptation and Sectoral Climate Change Impacts training was held in Trabzon from September 30 to October 1, 2024, under the capacity-building component of the “Enhancing Adaptation Action in Türkiye Project”, which is co-financed by the Government of Türkiye and the European Union, and implemented with technical support from UNDP.

The program opened with keynote addresses by Uğur Korkmaz, the Trabzon Provincial Director of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change, and Dr. Ömer Öztürk, a Climate Change Expert from the Directorate, drawing 45 local stakeholders from governmental agencies and universities across Trabzon and its neighboring provinces.

The training focuses on vulnerability and risk assessments, sectoral impacts, and the formulation of strategies and action plans, aimed at enhancing local stakeholder awareness regarding disaster risk management, biodiversity, ecosystems, tourism, and cultural heritage.

“Enhancing Adaptation Action in Türkiye Project” is designed to bolster societal resilience by advancing climate adaptation at both the sectoral and urban levels.

One of the objectives of the project is to refine decision-making tools for climate-resilient sustainable development, facilitate the design of local adaptation plans, build institutional capacity for adaptation measures, and enhance implementation through a dedicated climate adaptation grant program.
