September 27, 2024 Fatma Varank, Deputy Minister of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change and Chief Climate Negotiator, attended the High-Level Dialogue on the Energy Transition held during the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly. The meeting was hosted by the European Commission under the auspices of the COP29 Presidency of Azerbaijan and the International Energy Agency (IEA).

The dialogue focused on developing solutions to translate the energy-related findings of COP28's first Global Stocktake into actionable results at COP29.

Participants engaged in a constructive and candid exchange of views regarding climate ambition and energy action to contribute to the outcomes of COP29, scheduled for November in Baku. During the session, the International Energy Agency presented its new report, "From Taking Stock to Taking Action: How to Implement the COP28 Energy Goals."

Deputy Minister Varank emphasized that Türkiye’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) targets are fully aligned with the COP28 UAE Consensus, noting that the energy transition remains at the core of the nation's climate policy.
