The 48th Meeting of the Open-Ended Working Group of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer has kicked off in Bangkok.

Organized by the UN Environment Programme Ozone Secretariat in Bangkok, the meeting saw the Directorate of Climate Change take the floor on behalf of Türkiye across various agenda items.

Representing Türkiye at the summit, which brought together delegates from 198 parties, was Deputy Director of Climate Change Mehrali Ecer and an accompanying delegation.

Speaking on behalf of Türkiye, Deputy Director Ecer underscored the critical need for new funding mechanisms targeting areas required by developing nations, including Türkiye.

Emphasizing that the Montreal Protocol’s nearly four-decade success hinges on robust dialogue and cooperation among parties, Ecer noted that preserving the current operational setup is essential for sustaining the Protocol’s effectiveness.
Throughout the sessions, the Turkish delegation shared the country’s official stance and strategic priorities.
