Prof. Dr. Halil Hasar represented Türkiye in high-level meetings convened during the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

He attended the session for the Coalition for High Ambition Multi-Level Partnerships (CHAMP), an initiative comprising "first-mover" national governments committed to collaborating with local and regional authorities to enhance Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and climate strategies. The meeting also addressed emerging climate finance and investment modalities.

Additionally, as part of New York Climate Week, Director Hasar participated in an "Extreme Heat Resilience" roundtable. This event was jointly organized by the Cool Up program in partnership with Guidehouse, UNDP, and the Atlantic Council’s Arsht-Rock Resilience Center.

These meetings brought together distinguished leaders and experts from diverse sectors to exchange insights, forge new alliances, and strengthen cooperation. The objective was to identify cross-sectoral synergies and bolster the collective capacity to mitigate and adapt to extreme heat events. During the sessions, Prof. Halil Hasar emphasized that Türkiye is situated within the Mediterranean Basin, one of the regions most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.

In addition to highlighting Türkiye’s Climate Change Adaptation Strategy and Action Plan, developed through a transformational adaptation lens, he drew attention to the close cooperation with local governments and the national climate modeling project designed to support accurate climate planning, showcasing the country’s robust leadership in climate action.
