Ahead of the upcoming Environment Policy Committee (EPOC) High-Level Meeting in Paris, Prof. Halil Hasar, the Director of Climate Change, held a virtual meeting with Jaime de Bourbon de Parme, the OECD Environment Director. During the online meeting, the two leaders discussed Türkiye's COP31 presidency and strategic cooperation with the OECD. Director Hasar emphasized that Türkiye is approaching the COP31 Presidency with a profound sense of responsibility.

“Guided by the pillars of ‘Dialogue, Consensus, and Action,’ we intend for COP31—set for November 2026 in Antalya—to serve as a definitive turning point in global climate cooperation,” he stated.

“Our goal is to position Türkiye as a regional hub for climate action and implementation, leaving behind a lasting legacy.”

“Our primary objective for COP31 is to demonstrate how commitments can be translated into real-world outcomes. Our primary objective for COP31 is to demonstrate how commitments made at the negotiating table can be translated into real-world outcomes,” said Director Hasar. He made the following remarks:

“Trust in the multilateral system has been weakened by geopolitical tensions and the retreat of some nations from financial commitments. This makes the ‘Dialogue and Consensus’ dimension of COP31 more critical than ever. Türkiye aims to bridge this gap. We are closely monitoring the EPOC Meeting scheduled for April,
and our team will be in attendance. In particular, we see a direct synergy between the core priorities of our COP31 Action Agenda and the agenda items regarding Economics of Climate Resilience, Water Finance, and Geo-engineering.

We call for the integration of the OECD's analytical expertise in climate finance monitoring, carbon pricing, and the circular economy into the COP31 thematic reports.
We also place great importance on establishing a structured dialogue mechanism between the Directorate and the OECD.

We believe this meeting will mark the beginning of concrete and sustainable cooperation between the OECD and Türkiye’s COP31 Presidency,
allowing us to develop a more comprehensive roadmap for our partnership.”
