UNITAR's Director of the Welfare Unit, Mihoko KUMAMOTO, visited the Directorate of Climate Change

The Director of the Welfare Unit of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), Ms. Mihoko KUMAMOTO, UNITAR Türkiye Representative Dr. Hidayet Sıddıkoğlu visited the Climate Change Directorate to visit for exchanging information on capacity building and potential cooperation.

The visit began with goodwill and mutual courtesy wishes. Our Director, Prof. Dr. Halil Hasar, mentioned the working areas of the Directorate and emphasized the contribution the visit would make to potential areas of cooperation. Professor Halil Hasar highlighted that our country is located in one of the most vulnerable regions to climate change, the Mediterranean Basin, and discussed the activities undertaken in Türkiye to combat climate change. Additionally, he emphasized the vital importance of supporting climate finance and projects.

Mihoko Kumamoto discussed the global implications of climate change and highlighted UNITAR's units, its global organization, and the educational activities it has conducted so far. Mihoko Kumamoto also emphasized the need to develop leadership capabilities in combating climate change and mentioned the importance of capacity building.

A consensus was reached on developing a capacity-building training program tailored to the needs of the staff. The program is planned to cover two years, including both online and face-to-face sessions, and aims to contribute to capacity building in areas such as management, leadership, and mentoring.
